racist movies?

Two recent movies have managed to make waves in Newsweek and elsewhere as somewhat racist movies. The controversial culprits? Hitch and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Yes, these two movies are indeed exposing the deep, dark underbelly of racism in this country. (Never mind that Charlie was actually written by an Englishman.)

my everlasting book project part I

The new flurry of activity around writing my book comes mostly from the inspired suggestion of my lover that I self-publish it as a series. While I’ve already strongly considered the self-publishing route (it’s said to be ideal for prickly, independent cusses), the serialization idea means I can get my work out much faster than writing the whole thing in one fell swoop.

behind every memory there are traces of tears

I was able to see 2046 this weekend. I’ve never seen one of Kar Wai Wong’s films before (the director/writer). It was incredible. I will be renting his other movies.

Two Classic Movies about the Classic Career

Butterfield 8 and Klute are interesting parallel movies. They both won Oscars for their leadings ladies, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda. Both films have a bit of a reputation for focusing on call-girls. Both films star kind-of-clunky men as the romantic leads. Each movie takes a different view of sexually liberated women.

I’d come across knowing references to both movies since childhood, which fueled my curiosity about certain things. I've discovered the pleasure of working with Brian Gardner's WP themes. His free stuff is nearly flawless and his more expensive stuff is mind-blowing. Although his work is easy to use right out of the box, there's infinite fun to be had by customizing (i.e., destroying) it. As you can see here.
