I was beginning to wonder if you’d fallen off the planet. Promise us you’ll blog about your travels, when you can. ;-)

  2. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Alexa,

Still hanging on! :) I will blog and Tweet, of course! Hopefully more photos too.

Oh — I am behind on my emails but I’m sure this surprises no one.

Amanda, could you share any information about the Toledo event? Place/time? Will it be open to the public?

    Thanks

  4. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Outis,

Not sure if it will be open to the public or not. I rather doubt it. But you can find out everything here:

    Thanks for asking!

YAY! I hope you can get around to Chicago. I’d LOVE to see you again! I need to drop you an email line anyway, but I reckon you’ve been as busy as I have. Got some catching up to do!

I have to say though, fixin’ to get ready to? Wow, that’s a whole lotta pre-preparation! :P

  6. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Aspasia,

You’re one of those people I want to see. It’s been too long! And I want soul-food while I’m there. :)

Good to hear you’re busy! I hope that means good things for you, at any rate.

My title is my East Texas dialect coming out. I say this a lot and more than once people have pointed out the phrasing is a little…funny.

  7. Aspasia Says:

I’m all over the soul-food angle!

I know I’ve used “fixin’ ta” before, so let that East Texas dialect come out. :)

  8. Casey Says:

Would love to read your paper for the Toledo conference… any chance you can post it here???

  9. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Casey,

I don’t know actually. Not sure about the rules on that. I’ll have to ask. If so, I will post it but it will be after we present on Friday.

  11. Gypsy Indigo Says:

I love your blog! I read your escort books too- they were fantastic :)

  12. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Greg,

Thank you! I’ll post more often. A lot of things are getting settled, especially after the conference next week. I ALWAYS have a backlog of posts and emails. :)

    Gypsy,

Thank you so much! LOVE hearing that!

    Casey,

No, we are not going to release the paper after the conference. My co-author is working toward academic publication. This is like a rough draft, believe it or not. We’ve discussed a book (groan!). So…no, paper out. I like the idea of academic publication!

Hi! First time viewer here and I’ve come across your site as I read your first book, freshly delivered by Amazon. I’m very interested in pursuing this career and learning all I can from one of the smartest professionals out there, so thank you!

I know this comment is random, but I thought I’d address something I read in your book. In your section on the history of internet use among escorts, you mentioned that there’s no documentation on the matter. I have something you may wish to read which actually does fully chart the major shift from majority “streetwalking” to the internet age of middle-class, internet using and educated escorts. “Temporarily Yours” by Elizabeth Bernstein gives the whole story with an exhaustively researched, scholarly approach!

Thanks again for everything that you do. Though I am a MtF transgendered individual looking to get into the business, I know I have much to learn from your experiences and look forward to being able to start on a firmer footing than most! <3 <3

  18. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Cheyenne,

Thanks for the comments! GIves me a big smile.

I have yet to read her book but I do have it (in a box in storage). Amazon shows it being published after Book 1. I look forward to reading it now since it does include a history! Someone needed to do it.

Wishing you much success in your new journey! Keep yourself safe. Look forward to seeing you blossom!

  19. Mitch Says:

Labor violations in the brothel system? I’d always assumed that they set them up as independent contractors so they wouldn’t have to be covered by labor regulations. I forgot about the people who serve the drinks and vacuum the floors, though.

  20. Amanda Brooks Says:

    Mitch,

You don’t understand. The BIG labor violation is that supposedly we’re independent contractors yet we’re treated like employees. So we either need to be employees or true independent contractors — being in this grey area is indeed illegal.

Plus a number of other things. Should’ve been there! ;)
