I’ve watched several addicting episodes of Love It or List It. The show features a couple who are unhappy with their home. They discuss wishes, desires, the need for improvement, etc. The male star of the show is a real estate agent and tries to find a new house that the couple will love, while the female star is a decorator who remodels their current home so they fall in love with it all over again. At the end of the show the couple chooses whether to stay in their house or list it and move to the new one they chose.

I’d love to see this concept done with marriage: improve the spouses while they go dating for a better one. At the end of the show, see if they’re going to stay together or not. How can you possibly ask for more reality-TV drama?

  1. Long time reader, first time commenter… Juust wanted to shake my head at you for watching Love It or List It. 🙂

  2. Blake — Can’t believe it was THIS that brought you out of lurking! I like the show well enough, but there are extenuating circumstances.

  3. My guilty pleasure is even more head shaking: My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding. I got hooked on the UK original and now I watch the US version.

  4. Not sure if I’m a first time commenter, but *I* came out of lurking to say I WOULD WATCH THIS SHOW! Sounds so amazing.

  5. Looks like My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding just got more relevant for me: a rebel Romanichal woman is a sex worker, specifically a stripper.

Family members sometimes derogatorily call Mellie a “ref” when she acts like a mix of Rumney and nongypsy or “gorger.” Mellie, who is twice divorced, said she did not want to stay home to raise children and clean, or suffer the physical abuse she claims is common in gypsy marriages.

“I always wanted to work,” she said. “I just wasn’t allowed.”

Working as an exotic dancer now has pros and cons, Mellie said. The show has led to recognition from customers, she said.

“Last night at work, I signed so many dollar bills for people,” she said with a laugh.

  6. work it out or divorce would make an interesting show. I didn’t think the show aired any where else other then Canadian tv since it is a Candian show. pretty cool your able to watch it.

  7. Riley — I like the “stay or divorce” idea myself!

The show comes on HGTV in America. Not sure how long it’s been running but apparently I’m not the only one who finds it addicting. It’s one of those shows you can place bets on.
